Let's start the new series on what to do in the first week of a new blog, which contains the most obvious tasks. Once you have your blog up and running, you'll need a few posts to really get started.

In many ways, this work should start in the pre-launch phase of your blog, as it is very helpful to write several posts prior to launch and save them as drafts. This means that during launch week, you can have free time to focus on other activities.

Content types for the first week of blogging

The content you write will vary based on the genre and topic of your blog, but some of your first posts might include:

  • Blog post and what it's about - This can double as your About page.
  • Your Story - One of the best types of posts for building a relationship with your readers is a post where you share your story about where you're headed. Again - this can serve as your "About Us" page (or at least a link to your "About Us" page).
  • Main content - Most themes have themes that can be used as the main articles for your blog. By this I mean topics that are central to your overall topic and topics that contain helpful tips that you will come back to again and again. These types of posts are important to write early on because they will show that you are covering important topics in your field and give you something to refer to new readers. For example, on my blog about photography, before I wrote the post, I decided on the key points for a good exposure: shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.
  • Epic Posts / Viral Content - This can be difficult if you don't have a lot of blogging experience, but one trick to get started is to start your blog with an "epic" article written in hopes of success. It's hard to define this kind of message as getting attention, but it's something that's shared on Twitter, works well on social bookmarking sites, and is emailed from friend to friend. These posts are usually detailed lists, humorous posts, controversial topics, or epic topic guides.
  • A short series of posts - Sometimes a few posts at the beginning of a blog can be useful as they help build momentum for your blog. Anyone present is incentivized to come back or sign up right away because they want to see what you'll be creating tomorrow that relates to what they just wrote.

As mentioned above, you must start writing content before this job can be posted. In general, I recommend starting a blog with 2-3 posts already published and saving another 5-10 as drafts. Having a bunch of posts ready to be published as drafts means you can continue with other things, but have a bunch of posts ready to go when you need to.

I have more blog post ideas (180 of them) in my Free ProBlogger Membership Library: 6 Months of Blog Post Ideas (You must be logged in or registered to access the library).

Plus, I teach you how to plan and create content in my free 7-day Content Sprint course.

Set the posting speed

Consider the frequency of posts related to this activity (you'll want to pre-select this as well).

The first week posting rate varies from blog to blog, but I usually start with 3-4 posts. If your post gets good traffic, try posting another post the next day as a follow-up, because it's important to keep up the momentum.

It is important not to promote your content too quickly. The temptation after launch is to launch everything you have at once. This unfortunately does not give you anything extra. Be patient and decide what type of posting frequency you will keep once your blog has been running for some time.

Additional information about the content of the blog:

Writing compelling blog content usually happens for one reason: it takes time to find your voice and develop a writing style that connects and engages. But a little reading and a lot of practice in the beginning can teach you a lot. Here are some posts to help you make up your mind on this important topic:

"Write and schedule 7 or 8 posts for the next two weeks." - Rachel

“Write at least 10 blog posts (tips, lists, personals, videos) and add to them every day for the first 10 days.” - Andres

“What we did out of the gate was write a series of posts related to the theme of the first week, with the second week related to the theme of the first week and the third week to the second… we tie it all together next week…” – Priangwe

"If you're serious about creating a blog for the long term, I think the most important thing you need to do is set up a publishing schedule. Be honest with yourself and don't overdo your abilities, but stick to your schedule. It helped me when I was lacking in motivation. It helped overcome Some slumps. - Peter

“For the first few weeks of blogging, I recommend focusing on creating 10 to 20 great posts.” - Tay Riddle

"Publish it on your blog! No matter how excited people are to start your blog, they will stop visiting if there is too little new content." - Laurier

“Create valuable content from scratch. Include a variety of posts and key content that engages and influences the reader.” - Matteo Iguna

Before you start a blog, draft 5-10 main posts you will write. - strong

My advice is to start writing some posts. Something with a time frame, like “Every day this week I'm going to do different research…” or “I'm going to work every Monday…” or “Every month I'm going to interview a celebrity.” ... "And soon. It takes a little nudge, but it's great for motivation!" - Kirin

"Write something every day. Writers write. You don't have to *publish* everything you write—the Save Draft button is your best friend. But draft in a notebook or save a draft word-processing document; write something. Something takes time—15 minutes Half an hour - and write something. Your writing muscles (and that elusive sound everyone's talking about) only develop if you use them." - pat.

"Take your time creating great posts. Enjoy the opportunity to do so without feeling compelled to create content (you'll have such wonderful readers soon!) Blogging Life: You can link to these starter entries as your blog grows." - On

"Don't waste too much time writing the first message that welcomes your readers. Understanding the original message - Hello World! Parts - will be one of the most important tasks you set yourself. You will be wrong. Instead, invest your energy in a great post on a topic that will live on for a long time - The so-called essay tent. - Glenn

Next week, as part of this series, we'll talk more about content. In the meantime, feel free to add your own tips and experiences. What type of content did you publish in the first week of your blog?
